…since we last took ‘Imi Loa out of the marina. After working so hard on the headliner project for the past couple weeks we finally got the boat put back together and spent a really fun weekend away. Saturday we motored to one of the local docks for a Thanksgiving cruise with the Sauvie Island Yacht Club, a local yacht club that we are joining. We had a really fantastic time, the club’s main focus is cruising (near and far) so we had lots to talk about. The members are really friendly and willing to share their experiences with us newbies. It was a real treat to talk to people who have actually “been there, done that”. Getting to go aboard some of the other sailboats was very cool as well.

Saturday afternoon we had a yummy Thanksgiving feast, complete with turkey cooked on the dock. We also had surprisingly good weather.  The forecast was for temps in the low 40s and rain on Saturday with cooler temps and a rain/snow mix with sun breaks for Sunday. What we got was some drizzle Saturday morning but then dry in the afternoon with sun finally breaking out just as it was going down. Sunday we awoke to an absolutely beautiful clear morning with a heavy layer of frost. We had a potluck breakfast aboard one of the boats, and then prepared to head home as the clouds came back in the late morning. On the way home it rained for a bit, then it turned to snow. We were both pretty cold (though mostly dry) by the time we had ‘Imi Loa tied back up in her slip. We definitely need a dodger (and waterproof gloves) for these winter outings!

The sun breaking through the clouds Saturday afternoon.
A frosty Sunday morning.
The morning air was so still the water was like glass.
Snow in the gray afternoon.

Welcome!

We are Devon & Rowan and this site is about our life aboard our sailboat, how we got here, and where we hope to go in the future…

We started our boating life in the Portland Oregon area with an Ericson Independence 31 before moving to the SF Bay area. In 2013 we purchased and moved aboard Casita, our Hans Christian 33. In October 2024 we finally cast off the dock lines and headed south. We are currently cruising Mexico with plans to do a Pacific crossing.

We aren’t retired and we aren’t wealthy so we will cruise until we run low on funds or low on fun and then look at our options. Please join us for this next phase of our adventures together.
