Our Boat

Casita

We purchased Casita in the summer of 2013 and have been living aboard ever since.

Casita is a Hans Christian 33 built in Taiwan in 1984. She is an aft cockpit, cutter rigged fiberglass boat with a double pullman berth, small aft cabin, and a single head. She officially displaces 18,500 pounds but probably closer to 25,000 loaded for cruising. Length on deck is 32’9″ but with bowsprit and pushpit length overall is 41′ while length of the water line is 29’2″. Max beam is 11’8″ and official draft is 5’6″ but we always assume at least 6′ with all our stuff onboard.

‘Imi Loa

‘Imi Loa was our first keelboat, she is a 1979 Ericson 31 Independence.  She is 31’ long with a 10’5″ beam (width), and a 4’11” draft (depth below waterline) and displaces 11,400 pounds. She is constructed primarily of fiberglass with some teek trim on deck and lots of teak in the cabin. The Ericson Independence was designed for the “cruising couple” and is capable of making offshore passages. The cabin is designed to sleep 2 comfortably but can sleep as many as 5.  She has some fairly modern features (for 1979 anyway) such as her modified full keel but her look is very traditional.

We sold ‘Imi Loa in 2013 after purchasing and moving aboard Casita.

Welcome!

We are Devon & Rowan and this site is about our life aboard our sailboat, how we got here, and where we hope to go in the future…

We started our boating life in the Portland Oregon area with an Ericson Independence 31 before moving to the SF Bay area. In 2013 we purchased and moved aboard Casita, our Hans Christian 33. In October 2024 we finally cast off the dock lines and headed south. We are currently cruising Mexico with plans to do a Pacific crossing.

We aren’t retired and we aren’t wealthy so we will cruise until we run low on funds or low on fun and then look at our options. Please join us for this next phase of our adventures together.
