As I write this we are at anchor in La Paz. From La Cruz we basically retraced our steps to La Paz. First we went to Mazatlán where we spent just a couple of days, then crossed the Sea to the anchorage at Los Muertos. I think we spent 2 nights there before making our way to the La Paz area. We spent several nights anchored at some of the beautiful islands near La Paz before coming to La Paz itself.

We’ve been here in La Paz for a few weeks, enjoying ourselves, relaxing, eating good food, making new friends, and getting us and Casita ready to leave for Hawaii. Well the cupboards are full, the fridge and freezer are packed to bursting, our paperwork to officially depart Mexico is done, and we are ready! We leave tomorrow. This is both very exciting and scary. This will be our longest passage by far. We will sail about 3000 nautical miles and expect it to take us 3 to 4 weeks. That means 3 to 4 weeks of being underway nonstop and sleeping no more than 4 hours at a time as someone will always need to be on watch.

I don’t expect to update this blog before we make landfall in Hawaii but you can track our progress at the following sites (no need to create a login for either site):

So tonight we rest and tomorrow the next phase of this adventure begins!!

I don’t know if my comment went through, so will use this to wish you well on the trip to Hawaii. May the sailing be peaceful.

    Love you ❤❤

Wow! That is exciting and as you said sounds scary as well. I wish you good weather and smooth sailing! We will be thinking of you. Are the other people you are with in the photo heading out as a group to Hawaii? That would be comforting if so. I’ll be tracking you. I can’t wait to hear from you when you arrive in Hawaii! Love you both! Priscilla

Hi Priscilla, it’s great to hear from you! One of the boats in the group left yesterday (Wednesday) evening, the other 2 are leaving in the next several days. So we will be relatively close to each other. Even if everything left at the same time we would end up spread out as we likely will be going different speeds and take slightly different routes. We love you too!

Welcome!

We are Devon & Rowan and this site is about our life aboard our sailboat, how we got here, and where we hope to go in the future…

We started our boating life in the Portland Oregon area with an Ericson Independence 31 before moving to the SF Bay area. In 2013 we purchased and moved aboard Casita, our Hans Christian 33. In October 2024 we finally cast off the dock lines and headed south. We are currently cruising Mexico with plans to do a Pacific crossing.

We aren’t retired and we aren’t wealthy so we will cruise until we run low on funds or low on fun and then look at our options. Please join us for this next phase of our adventures together.
